Comic books and music have been what’s sustained me through most of my life. So, while working one of my absolute favorite gigs – writing for the weirdo web site Strange Kids Club – I had the thought to mash them both together like so much chocolate and peanut butter, beer and pretzels, xenomorphs and … well, faces. And thus, Cömic Räwk was born!
And then Strange Kids Club went buh-bye. Gonzo. Outta here.
But the idea lived on! The original artwork for the Cömic Räwk was designed by longtime Strange Kids Club collaborator Phil Postma, and he put together some fabulous banners and character workups. I started to think up the backstory for these kids – a three-piece punk band (The Noize Nerdz) led by Napalm Nell, with a robot drummer and a shapeshifting bassist. Plus the scientist that watched over them, turned road manager for the band. Take some military-grade weaponry, and find ways to repurpose it for sonic splendor. Cram it all into a touring van that’s more than meets the eye.
Then along came the fantastic Cee Raymond, who has helped me further sculpt the story, started design work on the bassist and the Doc, and tweaked the whole concept with me.
I’ve had this web domain locked in for a while. Like, sitting vacant for ENTIRELY too long. And collaborating with folks like Cee, my buddy Jenz Lund from Blood & Gourd, and Jason Pell from Pinpricks…it helps keep me (moderately) sane. A little creative energy to break the monotony of the everyday grind. ESPECIALLY given the current quarantine life we’re all living.
So, while this web site is my baby…I also want it to be a community. Somewhere to play and have a geeky little voice on the interwebs. Let’s make some art, kids!
